A bright reflection can still look distorted
When reviewing the mirror in a loose powder compact, distinguish the shape of the reflected image from its apparent brightness. Straight reference lines that bend in the reflection raise a different question from a reflection that simply looks darker. Combining both impressions into one 'mirror quality' rating makes comparisons difficult to repeat.
Control the viewing arrangement
Compare the intended mirror against an agreed reference using the same illumination, background, viewing angle and distances. A grid or straight-edged target can make changes in reflected geometry easier to observe. Document the center and edges without changing the setup between samples.
For brightness comparisons, keep the target and lighting consistent and record whether the judgment is visual or instrumented. Photographs with automatic exposure or changing camera positions can disguise differences. A casual photograph is not a measurement of reflectance, and a visual grid check is not a certified surface-flatness test.
Compare before and after mounting
Where the component can be examined before assembly, record its reflected image while supporting it without bending it. Repeat after mounting and after any specified adhesive conditioning, maintaining the viewing arrangement. Keep mirror identity and assembly revision traceable so the comparison follows the same component where practical.
If the image changes after assembly, investigate support geometry, contact pressure, attachment and assembly conditions. Use additional specimens to see whether the change repeats. The observation suggests an assembly-related influence; it does not prove that adhesive, substrate or housing alone caused it. Mirror material and attachment method must be checked on the actual construction rather than inferred from the external appearance.
Report separate observations
Record image distortion, apparent brightness and any change following mounting separately. Optical engineering references such as Edmund Optics explain why mirror surface shape affects the reflected image, but precision laser-mirror tolerances are not acceptance limits for a cosmetic compact. Agree suitable criteria for the intended viewing task.

Sambound offers empty cosmetic packaging, including mirror-equipped formats, as shown at sambound.com. The evaluation above is a proposed comparison approach, not a claim that a particular model has passed an optical test.
